South Africa: Hamnet Western Cape exerciseHAMNET Western Cape is exercising with Wilderness Search and Rescue (WSAR) this weekend on the farm Waaihoek in the Worcester area. The farm belongs to one of its members, Christie van Zyl, ZR1CVZ, who offered WSAR the right to exercise on his farm due to the high mountains and cliffs. This exercise should pose as a real communications challenge as we don't have line-of-sight with the search teams. Numerous amateur radio mobile relay stations will be posted at vantage points, thus allowing us to test and exercise our own operators in the art of message handling and voice procedures. A group of some 20 HAMNET members have committed themselves to the exercise. HAMNET Western Cape is a signatory to WSAR, playing a very important
role in providing specialised radio communications in the Western Cape.
