ARISS contact planned with Italian school on Tuesday

An International Space Station Expedition 15 ARISS school contact has been planned with participants at Giosuè Carducci school in Santa Marinella, Italy on Tuesday 23 October 2007. The event is scheduled to begin at approximately 10:51 UTC which is 12:53 European continental time.

The contact will be a direct between stations NA1SS and IZ0LRI. The contact should be audible in most of Europe. Interested parties are invited to listen in on the 145.800 MHz FM downlink. In addition, the audio should be available via IRLP and EchoLink. The participants are expected to conduct the conversation in English.

Guglielmo Marconi

The Giosuè Carducci secondary school is located in the town of Santa Marinella, 60 km northwest of Rome. The classes having the ARISS QSO comprise students (boys and girls) aged 12 to 15 years old. The ARISS activity is well integrated into the school curriculum with the Programme called GUGLIELMO MARCONI.

This project is about the Research and Experiments conducted by Guglielmo Marconi at the NATIONAL RADIOELECTRIC CENTRE established in the town. Marconi conducted experiments with microwaves, RADAR, Radio Mobile Telephone and the use of the moon as a reflector. Marconi bounced off waves from the town to the moon.
