Ham Radio success story for Canterbury College

On Thursday 11th October, four students from Canterbury College - south of Brisbane at Waterford, successfully completed the theory paper for the amateur radio foundation certificate.

Kimberly and Jack from year 7, and Teagan and Jocelyn from year 8, spent six Thursday afternoons after school with Ron, VK4DQ and Sue VK4ST who took them through the theory and practical aspects of the course.

The foundation licence handbook was a valuable aid for all the students. All four were thrilled to pass both theory and practical and eagerly await their certificates. The certificates will be presented to the students at a school assembly.

Jack is very keen to take on the standard course next year. More students and couple of parents have expressed interest in a similar foundation course next year. Hopefully this will provide more impetus for an amateur radio club to be formed at the college.

The course was organised by Tim VK4YEH who teaches Maths at the college.

Thanks must go to Sue and Ron for giving up their time and assisting the students through the course.
