Videos of ISS Columbus Amateur Radio Antennas

Videos and pictures showing the installation of the Amateur Radio antennas on the Columbus module are now available.

They show the installation an inspection of the 1260 MHz and 2400 MHz antennas on the Columbus module which will be launched to the International Space Station (ISS) after the "Harmony" node has been installed.

The Space Shuttle carrying the "Harmony" node to the space station should be launched on Tuesday 23rd October. It will provide a passageway between three science laboratories: the existing US Destiny lab; the European Space Agency's
(ESA) Columbus module; and the Japanese Kibo experimental units. The Columbus module is scheduled to be launched in December.

The GB4FUN Radiocommunications van

The Amateur Radio antennas on Columbus will permit video links to be established for the important Amateur Radio ISS School Contact programme in which the RSGB through the GB4FUN Radiocommunications van has played a vital role.

The new antennas will also allow future ATV repeater operation from the Space Station.

As part of the fund raising during the development of the antennas AMSAT-UK made two substantial donations to the project totally over 19000 Euros. A significant donation was also received from the RSGB which was most welcome.

Not all the funding required for the project has been achieved and further donations are welcome, see http://www.ariss-eu.org/donations.htm
