New experimental 10-metre band EchoIRLP node

Last year, while Mike VK8ZMA was operating in Niger in West Africa as 5U7MA, he established EchoIRLP node 8191 for the duration of his deployment there.

The node closed down in December of 2006 but has a new lease of life back at his home QTH of Katherine in the NT.

The node has been resurrected as an experimental 10 metre combined EchoIRLP node operating on 29.120Mhz simplex.

It is envisaged that, as the sunspot cycle improves over the next few years, this node may get some interesting reports.

The node is running 30 watts into a 1/2 wave vertical and any reports of receiving or working this node would be much appreciated.

The node is "beaconing" at least every 5 minutes with time calls, weather reports, CW idents, etc to keep a reasonably constant source of signal originating from the node.

The node will broadcast the WIA national News at 0930 CST along with the automated call-back system.

The EchoLink vanity node number for the new node is 6411 with the IRLP node number being 8191

All reports or queries on the node can be directed to Mike by email: vk8zma@tbpl.com.au
