ISS images from Kenwood VC-H1Miles Mann WF1F via the AMSAT Bulletin Board has provided some information on the two Amateur Radio SSTV systems now onboard the International Space Station. On the AMSAT Bulletin Board (AMSAT-BB) he writes: Today's (Wednesday) images from ISS are courtesy of the Kenwood VC-H1 communicator. There are two SSTV systems on board ISS which have gone through the ARISS/NASS/RSA approval process. Those are the SpaceCam1 Software solution and the Kenwood VC-H1 hardware solution. On October 15, the ISS crew switched over to the Kenwood VC-H1 and set the camera in a window on ISS. The VC-H1 was then configured to take a snapshot every few minutes and send the image back to Earth (Robot-36 format). The easiest way to tell the difference is by looking at the Text overlay. The VC-H1 will display the name NA1SS in big blue letters. The SpaceCam1 software solution will display the call sign and time stamp on the bottom of the image. SpaceCam1 will also support many USB cameras for similar Live snap shots. At the present time we have not been able to test with any of the existing USB cameras on board ISS. In theory the crew should be able to connect a USB camera to the Laptop with SpaceCam1 and also select Slide show mode via Camera OR Disk rive. The VC-H1 project is from the ARISS team, I am not sure which specific individuals we have to thank for getting that project approved so quickly. So please enjoy the show.
