UK positioned for sat-nav prizes

BBC News reports that UK company SciTech Systems has swept this year's European Satellite Navigation Competition.

The competition honours the best ideas from small and medium enterprises that will make use of the Galileo satellite positioning system.

Formerly known as the Galileo Masters, the competition is run in a number of mostly European regions, and this year included Taiwan and Australia.

The top prize includes 20,000 euros in cash and six months' business "incubation" under the auspices of the GSA, the European regulatory agency for the new sat-nav technology.

One of the transponders on the Galileo system will transmit across 1260-1300 MHz which covers spectrum used by the Amateur Satellite Service and also the Amateur Service for very weak signal communications such as moonbounce.
