Channel 4 Dispatches - Remote Meter monitoring

Remote electricity meter monitoring 'Smart Meters' were mentioned in Monday evening's Channel 4 Dispatches TV programme.

The programme was broadcast on the UK TV station Channel 4 on Monday 20th October at 8:00 pm in a programme titled 'The truth about your energy bill'.

Remote electricity meter monitoring can be done in a number of ways. One approach is to transmit the meter data from millions of homes over the mains power supply although this has raised concerns about RF spectrum pollution issues than can be caused by 'data-over-mains'.

Alternatives include the use of the mobile phone network or even satellite technology such as the CubeSat being developed by the University of Strathclyde.
