VDSL in London and Wales

Muswell Hill in London and Whitchurch in South Glamorgan will be among the first in the UK to be offered 40 Mbit/s broadband via a combination of fibre optics and VDSL which uses the HF radio spectrum over telephone wires.

An item on TheRegister website titled 'London and Wales to get fast fibre' says that

"Fibre optics will carry data as far as street cabinets, which will then convert it to a VDSL signal to run over copper wires and into homes and businesses."

VDSL technology involves transmitting a broadband signal down telephone lines. This signal would extend across HF Amateur and Broadcast bands, up to as high as 30 MHz in the case of VDSL2.
