Frank De Winne to talk with students in Ieper, Belgium

An Expedition 20 ARISS school contact is planned for ISS Commander Frank De Winne with participants from VTI Ieper high school and elementary school Piramide, Roeselare, Belgium.

VTI profiles itself as a school for thinkers, daredevils and doers, where technicians feel at ease. The policy of the technical institute consists of three pillars: the pupil is the central focus, the staff makes the difference and regional embedment. All pupils asking questions are first-year students, following a general education providing the basics of construction, electricity, mechanics and carpentry.

Elementary school de Piramide is special as it is a method school according to the vision of Carl Medaer. This means that children, parents and teachers join hands to make projects work. In an atmosphere of respect for everybody’s freedom and opinion all subjects are mixed to develop a theme. All pupils asking questions are aged between 10 and 12.

This telebridge contact is scheduled on Friday 23 October at approximately 11:07 UTC, which is 13:07 CEST, via ARISS ground station VK4KHZ. The space talk will be conducted in Dutch.

The audio will expectedly be distributed on *AMSAT* and *JK1ZRW* EchoLink servers.

Participants will ask as many of following questions as time allows:

What is your task as commander?

ARISS is an international educational outreach program partnering the participating space agencies, NASA, Russian Space Agency, ESA, CNES, JAXA, and CSA, with the AMSAT and IARU organizations from participating countries.

ARISS offers an opportunity for students to experience the excitement of Amateur Radio by talking directly with crewmembers onboard the International Space Station. Teachers, parents and communities see, first hand, how Amateur Radio and crewmembers on ISS can energize youngsters' interest in science, technology and learning.
