Finland makes fast Internet connection a right

From July 2010, all Finnish citizens are to be granted the right to a broadband internet connection.

From that date, Finnish telecommunications companies will be compelled to offer all 5.2 million Finns Internet connections of at least one megabit per second.
By 2015, the connections must be 100 times faster.

The new act is also intended to ensure that even the country’s remotest regions are connected to the World Wide Web.

Finland is now one of the countries with the best Internet access in the world. At least 95 percent of all Finns have an Internet connection. The Finnish government believes a broadband Internet connection is a vital component of a modern society.
