Chelmsford Talk - WSPR and 500kHz, 136kHz, 9kHz VLFOn Tuesday, November 2, Roger Lapthorn, G3XBM, will share his experience of building and operating simple equipment for the VLF bands and the remarkable results he's obtained. Roger will show that getting operational on these bands does not have to be difficult or complex, yet results can be remarkably good. He has achieved a distance of 1733 km on 500 kHz using WSPR. His talk will cover how he got going on these bands (equipment and antennas used) as well as an update on interesting work in Germany with very long distance amateur communication using weak signal modes on 8.97kHz (the 33km band !!). Roger is one of just three UK Radio Amateurs that have been issued with a special NoV for 8.97-9.1kHz experimental operation. The talk takes place on Tuesday, November 2, at the Marconi Social Club (MASC), Beehive Lane, Great Baddow, Chelmsford, CM2 9RX. The doors open at 7:10 pm and the meeting gets underway at 7:30 pm. Apartments have recently been built near the entrance. Look for the large "Salsa" advertisement which shows the turning for the car park. For directions download the PDFs at CARS run courses for the Amateur Radio Foundation, Intermediate and Advanced exams.
