Indonesian Amateur Radio Satellites to launch in 2011

A news report says the Indonesian National Institute of Aeronautic and Space (LAPAN) will launch two satellites carrying Amateur Radio, LAPAN-A2 and LAPAN–ORARI, in the second quarter of 2011.

The report could be read as implying the satellites will be launched from a domestic rocket. An earlier report in February 2010 indicated that LAPAN-ORARI would be launched from India.

The article comments on the effect of import restrictions which has led LAPAN to develop local production to enable the country to have an independent rocket launch facility.
