Antarctica Award

This week in Awards, we examine a newbie issued by the
Mediterraneo DX Club. The MDXC is the largest DX club in
Italy, specialising in DXing and island chasing, but rather
than a new award for the north, the club has turned its
attention to the frozen continent. The award is the brand
new Antarctica Award, which has been finalised only in the
last few weeks.

there's a lot of information about this club and its new
award on the web at www.mdxc.org.

Basically, this award is issued for contacting amateur radio
stations operating from the various human settlements
("bases") in Antarctica, defined as the area south of 60¡
South latitude, including islands and ice shelves, to which
the provisions of the Antarctic Treaty apply.

The Antarctica Award is available to either licensed
amateurs or SWLs. All contacts must have taken place on
or after the first of January, 1961, and could be made on
any amateur HF band from 10 to 160 metres, using SSB,
CW or RTTY.

The Basic Award is issued for confirmed contacts with five
different bases located in at least three of the seven
sectors into which the Antarctic territory has been
divided.

you'll find more on the website, or write to the award
convenor IZ 8 CGS at this E-mail address:
