Motorola begins deployment of VIVO
CDMA2000 1X network in Bahia
Motorola has begun deployment of VIVOs CDMA2000 1X network in Bahia
that will bring high-speed data service and Internet access to an estimated
nine million people.
Motorolas infrastructure initially will cover the Salvador metropolitan
region and another 28 municipalities, with expansion planned to other
cities in the state during the second half of 2004.
Motorola also has deployed the carriers CDMA2000 1X networks in
the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina, Goiás,
Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Tocantins and Distrito Federal.
The expansion of CDMA2000 1X in Bahia reinforces VIVOs position
in Brazil and the prominence of the state-of-the-art technology, providing
advanced services to our customers, said Javier Rodriguez, vice
president of technology and networks for VIVO.
The main VIVO service enabled by CDMA2000 1X technology is VIVO Zap,
Internet access via cellular phones, PDAs and laptops via PCMCIA cards.
The CDMA2000 1X technology is already available in the capital cities
and other locations in the states of São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro,
Goiás, Rio Grande do Sul, Espírito Santo, Paraná,
Distrito Federal, Amazonas, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso
do Sul, Pará and Tocantins.
With CDMA2000 1X service, in addition to voice, the VIVO user can access
diverse entertainment, information and communication services through
the CDMA2000 1X handsets. In addition to well known services like VIVO
Torpedo SMS (cellular to cellular text message service, VIVO Quiz (question
and answer game), VIVO Cupido (flirting by cell phone by sending an SMS
Torpedo), Musical Tones (that personalizes the ring tones with the users
favorite music), VIVO Wap (from compatible cell phones, it permits access
to mobile internet via cellular, with instant messaging, e-mail, participation
in chat rooms, news services and guides, etc) and Chat da VIVO (chat environment
with celebrities via Wap).
VIVO, from the Portugal Telecom and Telefónica Móviles
groups, is the largest cellular telephone carrier in the Southern Hemisphere,
with more than 23.5 million clients in Brazil.
