Julius Lieberman, ZS6AF, Silent KeyIt is with regret that we announce the passing away of Julius Lieberman, ZS6AF, on Thursday 2 September when he suffered a fatal heart attack. In the seventies Julius started a Hamradio shop in conjunction with Wild and Marr. He later formed J Lieberman Electronics and expanded his premises in Pritchard Street in Johannesburg to occupy the first floor. The venue became a regular lunch time and Saturday morning meeting place for radio amateurs. For many it was the place where the amateur radio bug first bit. Many visiting amateurs from elsewhere in the country and oversees made J Lieberman Electronics their first stop. Julius started the first amateur radio museum which was housed in the shop. When in the nineties he moved to Wynberg he presented the collection to the SARL. He was also the driving force behind the Radio Amateur of the Year Award and a founder Trustee of the SA Amateur Radio Development Trust. Julius was a true supporter of the South African Radio League and a radio
amateur in body and soul. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
May he rest in piece but may his memory live on in our minds and hearts.
