Arnhem Link at Baudsey Transmitting Station
Open Day
On Sunday 18th September Baudsey Transmitting Station is having its open
day.
On the previous day (17th) I hope to establish a link to Arnhem using
a WS19HP from my Bedford QLR. While the
sets function OK (I hope) the army did not use the best aerials in 1944
or when I did my National Service in Royal Signals 1953-55. Thus I have
a G5RV sized doublet fed by a 450 ohm ladder fed by a balun. The best
ratio of balun to match the output from the RFA 2 has yet to be determined.
The arrangement has proved to be effective so far and I just want to make
it better.
My plans for Baudsey are simple:- I leave home in North Herts on Thursday
15th September and get there to set up tent and aerial as an inverted
V; Friday 16th I make the sets work and join nets to test; Saturday 17th
is Arnhem Anniversary and I hope to span the 192 miles from B to A; Sunday
18th is Baudsey Open Day and I shall be busy showing people the inside
of the QLR; Monday 19th I shall drive gently home.
I intend to try 3.615MHz which is the VMARS AM frequency but might call
on 3.625MHz as an alternative. VMARS also uses 7.143MHz but this is much
troubled by QRM from the Radio Luxembourg DRM Test transmission. I can
use any amateur freq. in 80 or 40 meter bands.
Skeds can be arranged email g4plw at btinternet.com
