Metro Wireless scores significant transfers from incumbent telco

Digiweb, Ireland's fastest moving Wireless Telecommunications Provider, today confirmed that its new Metro broadband product has secured over 1,000 new orders in just two weeks since its launch.

Offering a bundled solution which includes broadband, free telephone line rental, and free calls between customers, the service is a new approach in Ireland and is built using Digiweb’s Next Generation Network - the first alternative local access network to the incumbent operator. The unique benefit of Metro is that the customer does not require a traditional phone line at all to connect to the service.

“We worked hard to combine DOCSIS and Fixed Wireless technologies to develop what we believe is an extremely attractive service and are delighted now to see such a rapid take up of Metro” stated Colm Piercy, Managing Director.

Having reached its first milestone in such a short amount of time Digiweb are now offering to transfer a customers existing eircom phone number for free to the Metro network thus saving customers an additional €55.00 porting charge. This new promotion will run to the end of November 2005, and will also be extended to the first 1,000 customers already signed up.

Digiweb are also about to announce details of the first partnership agreements for wholesale services, and are actively talking to a number of large scale wholesale providers in Ireland and throughout Europe.

Commenting on the immediate success of Metro, John Quinn, Head of Strategic Development commented “The success of Metro has been no surprise to us and customer feedback to date has been amazing. Many of our Customers now wish to move their existing phone number to the Metro network and in order to facilitate them we have decided to offer this service free of charge until the end of November to both existing and new customers. As our network is independent of eircom we have no issues with local loop unbundling or such difficulties.”

Digiweb Metro is currently available in Dublin, Limerick, Cork, Waterford, Galway and Dundalk.
