High Altitude Glider Project

This is a Canadian Project involving a small, self-guided glider, designed to fly at very high altitudes.

The glider is carried up by its tail with a helium weather balloon to altitudes of up to 85,000 feet above sea level, and then released to fly back to the launch point.

Such a glider has Amateur Radio applications, it could transmit video from an onboard camera in our 430, 1240 or 2400 MHz bands or carry a linear transponder.

For full details see:

Note: Currently in the UK the use Amateur Radio transmitter on Ballons or Gliders is banned.

SOAR - "Space Observation with Amateur Radio" - is leading the campaign to get this archaic restriction removed, see http://www.eham.org.uk/
