IARUMS - Your support neededHave you joined the SARL DA programme? The objective of the DA Programme is to establish a core of subject matter experts to provide a link between the SARL Council and Radio Amateurs in each division. Divisional Advisers will provide input in their area of expertise from a local perspective, which will assist in bringing the SARL and members closer, and further improve the communication channels. Recently there was a call to join the IARUMS programme, which is aimed at protecting the amateur frequencies from unwanted intruders. The programme is very active in Europe but lacks monitoring input from the southern hemisphere and this is where the SARL and Radio Amateurs in South Africa need to play an active role. The SARL Councillor responsible for the SARL IARUMS programme, Hans van de Groenendaal, ZS6AKV, is putting his DA team together. Visit the SARL website and join the DA programme or send a mail to armi@sarl.org.za with your contact details. Being part of the IARUMS programme, you learn about various types of broadcasts, modulation schemes and what goes on in the world of HF outside amateur radio, but impacting on the amateur service. If monitoring is not your interest, do take the trouble to visit the SARL web at www.sarl.org.za to check the other areas in which Divisional Adviser are needed. The IARUMS programme needs your input this week. Please monitor 7 012 kHz. There seems to be a strong interfering signal coming most likely from a jammer transmitter. The IARUMS team would like details of signal strength at your QTH and times when the signal comes on and stops. Please send the info to armi@sarl.org.za.
