Airport shoe scanner to detect hidden explosives
AM radio waves let you keep your shoes on at airport
check-ins
A Western Australian company, QRSciences has devised
a new technology that will allow airports to scan passengers' shoes to
check for explosives.
The passengers stand on a platform which then emits a low AM radio field
which users similar technology to the MRI.
This weak field penetrates the shoes in 1-2 seconds and reports back
if any traces of explosives or other chemicals are found.
When asked if this was harmful the reply was "No, they are AM radio
waves, similar to your local radio broadcasts, so they're inherently safe."
