Radio celebrity supports science festivalTV presenter and radio amateur Dr Jonathan Hare, G1EXG, is calling on companies to sponsor a series of events in Brighton aimed at sparking an interest in science among young people. As part of the 2007 Brighton Science Festival, Jonathan plans to introduce school children to the fun and excitement of science through special workshops. The workshops will teach youngsters how to build home-made batteries using potatoes and other household items. The kids will then use the batteries to power LED flashers, Morse code buzzers, calculators and radios. Jonathan, a regular on the BBC’s Rough Science TV series, is involved in a number of initiatives to stimulate an interest in science. Last year, he ran a workshop with the Worthing Radio Events Group, M0REG, at Angmering School, West Sussex. M0REG treated the children to a demonstration of amateur radio while Jonathan ran a workshop on light beam communications. Jonathan’s workshops are designed to be fun for children, and are a great way of getting kids involved in scientific experimentation. If you are interested in sponsoring Jonathan’s workshops during the Brighton Science Festival, contact him through his website – www.creative-science.org.uk. Alternatively, e-mail Richard Robinson of the Brighton Science Festival at Richard@brightonscience.com.
