Ham radio space trio await their guests
The launch of the International Space Station’s next set of visitors,
the STS-115 crew, which has a further two radio amateurs among them, was
delayed Friday by a faulty fuel sensor.
Space Shuttle Atlantis is now scheduled to lift off at 11:15 am EDT Saturday
and to arrive at the station at 6:46 am on Monday, bringing the total
number of radio hams in space to five.
STS-115 will resume the on-orbit construction of the station with the
delivery of the P3/4 truss and a new set of solar arrays. After the station’s
robotic arm attaches the truss, the STS-115 crew will conduct three spacewalks
to outfit the truss and prepare the arrays for operation. The two crews
will also transfer cargo between the station and Atlantis.
