Fancy working in the Antarctic?

If you are a dab hand at maintaining radio equipment and don’t mind working in freezing conditions, then we could have just the job for you.

Alan, VK0LD, is looking for someone to fill a temporary position as a radio communications operator at Patriot Hills, Antarctica.

The job involves maintaining voice communications with Twin Otter aircraft and mountaineering parties on HF, VHF and Iridium satellite. The position would suit an experienced HF amateur radio operator. The successful applicant would receive a salary and airfares.

Patriot Hills is located at 80 degrees South, at the southern end of the Ellsworth Mountains, and is serviced by a weekly five hour flight on an Ilyushin 76 cargo jet from Punta Arenas, Chile.

Accommodation and food at Patriot Hills is provided free of charge. The post will run from about mid-October 2006 to the end of January 2007, but a shorter period may be negotiated for suitable candidates. The position requires very good English language skills and a reasonable level of fitness.

If you fit the bill, contact Alan by e-mail at vk0ld@yahoo.com. You can find out more about Patriot Hills on Alan's web page at www.geocities.com/vk0ld/home.html.
