Calling
all Radio Amateurs..
A charity for blind and partially sighted people has put out a call for
radio hams to take part in a 48-hour national fundraising event this weekend.
The annual Transmission competition involves amateur
radio enthusiasts trying to make as many sponsored contacts with other
radio amateurs as possible from 22 to 23 September.
The event is organized by the British Wireless for the Blind
Fund (BWBF), which provides radios and CD radio cassette recorders,
specially adapted for ease of use, for blind and partially sighted people
in need.
BWBF chief executive Margaret Grainger said:
“The specially-adapted sets are a blessing for people who are unable
to see.
“They are designed to be easy to use and help to give blind people
greater independence, which adds to the quality of their lives.
“We are really keen to hear from amateur radio clubs and individuals
who are interested in taking part in the event.”
The BWBF, launched by Winston Churchill in 1929, issues specially adapted
sets through a network of more than 300 voluntary agencies across the
UK.
