Guarantee problems for 'grey' importsRadio Amateurs in South Africa are being advised not to buy grey imported products. If they do, then it is at their own risk, as these products carry no guarantee and will not be serviced by the authorised dealer in South Africa. This warning came from Multisource, distributors of ICOM amateur equipment. Multisource told the South African Radio League that the company will in no way whatsoever support any Icom Amateur product that was not originally supplied by them or their approved dealers - this pertains to warranty, after-sales service and repairs. For all warranty exchanges or repairs, a serial and invoice number must be supplied together with a fully completed RMA form. If the serial number(s) of the equipment does not reflect on the records at Multisource, the Warranty will not be honoured. The same applies to equipment bought overseas. By law, grey importers must inform their customers that their products do not carry the manufacturer's warrantee.
