IARU Region 2 Executive Committee Meeting 30/31 August

IARU Region 2 has issued a report on the recent Executive Committee meeting held in Panama City on 30/31 August.

Active Member Societies are vital to insure the future of amateur radio.

The Executive Committee of IARU Region 2 held its yearly meeting in Panama City, Republic of Panama, on the past August 30-31.

The importance of having active and inclusive Member Societies as the only way to insure the future of amateur radio was underlined during the conference.

The support of Area Directors was requested in order to establish local links, at area and country level, in Emergency Communications and Monitoring System to work with recently designated Coordinators.

The participation of IARU in ITU, CITEL and CTU was reported. CTU has requested the support of IARU in order to have active Member Societies in its region, since they have been aware of the decisive importance of radio amateurs

in emergency situations. Region 2 initiated preparations to participate in the Telecom Américas 2010 event, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina on March 2010.

The support of Member Societies was requested insistently in order to advance in the signature of the IARP.

A commitment was established to make available, within the next months, a Spanish version of a general manual for beginners, in digital format for easy distribution, which will serve as an introductory study guide for all those interested in becoming new radio amateurs.

The importance of defining an inventory of Emergency Networks in Region 2 as soon as possible was underlined; it is being developed by the new EMCOR, Dr. César Pío Santos HR2P, and the support of Member Societies was requested in answering his emails.

The following meeting of the Executive Committee will take place in Lima, Peru, on September 2009.

The meeting was attended by President Reinaldo Leandro, YV5AMH; Vicepresident Dario Jurado, HP1DJ; Secretary Ramón Santoyo V., XE1KK; Treasurer and Area E Director Noel E. Donawa, 9Y4NED; Area A Director Daniel A. Lamoureux, VE2KA; Area B Director Rod Stafford, W6ROD; Area C Director Pedro Rodriguez, CO2RP; Area D Director Marco Tulio Gudiel, TG9AGD, and Area G Director Reinaldo Szama, LU2AH. IARU President Dr. Larry E. Price, W4RA was also present, in representation of the International Secretariat.
