Criminal investigators seize electronic equipment at IFA 2008 in Berlin
German criminal investigators
have seized a substantial amount of electronic equipment from the Internationale Funkausstellung (IFA) in Berlin.
The items seized include at least 170 TV sets, 140 MP3 players, 60 DVD recorders and 43 car radios.
The manufacturers of the seized goods are suspected of infringing patents. The majority of the items were manufactured in Asia.
The companies affected include some big names such as Hyundai IT, whose display of flat screens was removed by the investigators in full view of the public.
Although criminal investigators have visited previous IFA shows, never before have they operated on such a massive scale. About 200 officers are believed to have been involved.
The show continues through Wednesday 3 September
