Digital Dividend - Ofcom appoint Morgan Stanley

The UK regulator Ofcom announced on Thursday that it has appointed Morgan Stanley to promote UK's biggest spectrum award the 'digital dividend'

Ofcom has appointed investment bank Morgan Stanley & Co. Ltd. (Morgan Stanley) to promote international interest in its award of the 'digital dividend' of spectrum that will become available for new uses following the switchover from analogue to digital television.

The signals transmitted using these airwaves can travel over considerable distances, penetrate buildings and carry a large amount of data, making them suitable for delivering a wide range of services including:

more digital television services, in standard or high definition;

mobile broadband; and

mobile television.

The award of this spectrum creates many opportunities for new firms and new technologies to enter the UK wireless communications market, boosting competition and innovation.

Ofcom' s objective is to award the digital dividend in a way that maximises the value to society - both citizens and consumers - from its future use
