Vintage video of BBC Televison received in New YorkA video is available on YouTube showing reception in New York of transmissions from BBC Television Station at Alexandra Palace, England in 1938 The 1938 transmissions took place on low band VHF frequencies (45 MHz) and, thanks to good ionospheric propagation at the time, made the journey across the Atlantic. It is believed to be the only surviving example of pre World War II live "high-definition" UK television. The flickering black-and-white footage includes Jasmine Bligh, one of the original BBC announcers, and a brief shot of Elizabeth Cowell, who also shared announcing duties with Jasmine, an excerpt from an unknown period costume drama and the BBC's station identity transmitted at the beginning and end of the day's output. Further information is given in the extensive YouTube description about the video. Watch the YouTube video 'BBC Televison Received in New York' at
