There's something so special about handmade cards. It's so easy to go out and buy a card (and also increasingly expensive) but to make one for your loved ones shows just how much you care. Your friends and family will love to receive your handmade cards which can be kept as unique keepsakes to treasure forever.

I started to create my own cards when I became frustrated with the lack of choice that store-bought cards had to offer. In December, when I also needed a card for a Wedding Anniversary, the shops could only offer a tiny selection as they were overrun with Christmas cards.

Now, I'm not stingy, but the prices you pay now for a card that is bulk-printed is shocking. The cards can sometimes cost more than the gift you are buying! When I realized that I could make handmade cards which are tailor-made for each person, look luxurious and cost a fraction of the price of store-bought cards - I was hooked!

There is an art to making professional handmade cards, but it is something that you can learn even if you don't think you're that crafty. Once you've mastered basic techniques such as fraying handmade papers, knowing which colors work well together and what materials to use for maximum effect, you'll soon be on your way to becoming a card master.
