How to Be Up-to-date on The Internet?

The Internet is an extremely changing world. Thousands of websites are appearing each day. While hundreds other web pages are getting updated every now and then.

At first glance this could be good news. Hey, who can refuse fresh content and information after all? No one of course but... Think twice!

The Internet is so big that it's almost impossible to know about any web page update. An information update is worthless if you don't even know that the change has occurred!

So, how do I know that my favorite web sites are getting updated?
Good question. And the following tips are all about that.

Trick One:

I will start with the obvious trick...
It is to add your frequently visited sites onto your browser's Favorite links.

From your Internet browser, you have to click on the 'Favorites' menu and then click on 'Add to Favorites...' command while visiting the web site.

After that, you have to surf the web regularly until you 'encounter' any change on the pages. Simple but... a time-consuming task! Who has the time to review dozens of web sites day after day? And most of time you will get disappointed because you will simply notice that no changes are done yet! So you have to return next time again and again and pass to the next web site and do the same all chore work once more... No thanks.

Trick Two:

Okay let's see something else. How about to... Make the Browser's start page your favorite web site?

As you know, the start page is the first web page you see each time you open your browser. Thus you will see any change on the web site just when you log onto the internet.

To do so, from your Browser, click on the 'Tools' menu and then on 'Internet options...'

There you type in your favorite web page URL and hit the 'Ok' button.

The downside is that you can only make one start page at a time. So try to rotate your favorite websites giving each one an equal amount of exposure. Hmm... It's not funny if there are many websites to track! I agree with you so let's see something more comfortable.

Trick Three:

This third method is to give away your email address to the owner - the person who updates the web page. The webmaster will notify you by email every time the web site is updated! No need to check the web site yourself during hours!

"Well, this is cool. I go for it!" you would say. But wait. Are you sure it is a good idea?

Let's take a moment and study the question together. In fact, only few webmasters really offer this service to their visitors for free. Those who accepts to notify you about the updates could send advertisement messages -junk mail- as you will become a subscriber to their million members mailing-list! This is a risky way if you are only interested in the
update notification email.

It is fair to subscribe to a useful newsletter. Let's make it clear. A respectable newsletter is an excellent tool in order to learn in the Internet. There is no doubt here.

But joining a mailing-list just to squeeze those notification emails... I do not think it's reasonable. Because you will also receive offers that you probably are not interested in. And sure you don't want that!

So, let me ask you the question once more.

Are you serious about giving your personal email address to 'any' webmaster out there? Please make sure to subscribe to a newsletter that fully deserves your trust. With all that said. You can see that no method is 100% perfect. It is sad but... true. However, you can adapt each one so it suits your needs.

For example:

If you have plenty of time and feel ready to spend few hours a day on the web then the Trick One is the way to go.

If you have only one or two favorite web sites then the method number Two will do the trick.

If you feel the web site owner is someone trustworthy then go for the Trick number Three and subscribe to the newsletter.

So. Which method will you use to get the fresh content?
